Swedish Australian Health Care Forum in October

From 11 to 14 October, the Swedish Minister for Health Care, Public Health and Sport Gabriel Wikström was in Australia to discuss issues including health and medical care and antibiotics resistance with his Australian counterparts at federal and state level.

MSA’s Founder Janelle Solomon was proud to have been invited to participate in the Minister’s Swedish Australian Health Care Forum on 14 October in Canberra. The event was attended by eighty other people including leading representatives from government entities, clinicians, experts and industry.

Importantly for MSA members, the Forum had a focus on infection prevention and control which can be a constant battle for individuals with Mitrofanoff or other catheterisable stomas. Indwelling catheter use cause is believed to be the leading cause of antibiotic resistance in Australia.

During the visit, Australia’s Health Minister Sussan Ley was also congratulated by Mr Wikström for Australia’s support for the global “Call to Action on AMR” (Anti-Microbial Resistance) that is being led by the World Health Organisation.
